Overview of Assets
A map view providing a global overview of an organization's charging networks with zooming/panning capability, alongside a detailed list view showcasing information including the power utilization, asset counts, hardware issues and more for each network.

Sorting Capability
The ability to sort by issues and alerts relevant to ground operators.

Info & Asset Tags
To simplify complex data presentation, I utilized icons for clear visual communication and integrated tags in hover and select states for added context. Tags were implemented in the list view and map pop-up modals to provide quick access to vehicle and charger details.

What was my impact?
Design Impact
33% reduction in charging downtime through improved visibility.
15% faster hardware issue resolution for ground operators.
20% boost in customer satisfaction.

Who was the Target Audience?
Primary User
Ground Operators - They manage daily site operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly while coordinating with key stakeholders like fleet managers, drivers, and executives.
Secondary User
Fleet Manager - They oversee vehicle performance, coordinate maintenance, and ensure efficient operations for the fleet, working closely with drivers and ground operators.

What was the initial problem?
Ampcontrol is an AI-powered charging management software thats helps companies like Revel track
and optimize their Electric vehicle charging operations and vehicle telematics. EV Operators could track individual site activity but lacked visibility into charging sessions and operational issues across all their sites.
My goal was to redesign Ampcontrol's homepage to help operators quickly track operations and manage issues across their entire organization

Why was more visibility important?
To understand customer needs, I conducted 3 user research sessions to identify key data points and issues ground operators needed to track for smooth operations. Here's what I learned:
01.
Ground operators need to be able to see the general state of a charging site at all times
02.
Ground operators need to to identify and quickly fix whats going "wrong" at their sites

How were competitors tackling this?
All key competitors used dashboards to present organization-wide fleet data. I conducted a competitive evaluation focused on evaluating how other companies tackle the same problem, how they’re doing it, what’s working, and what’s not.

Flipturn

Flipturn, effectively presented complex information in a visually digestible way with clear information hierarchy and the use of icons to signify various data points.

Samsara
Samsara's map view was highly effective in providing a high-level overview of all the assets counts and individual assets that a ground operator needs to track.

Geotab
Geotab's ability to sort through charging sites based on specific hardware issues was a feature that most of our current clients referenced needing within our system.
How might we enable ground operators to monitor all their sites in real-time and quickly address issues to ensure smooth EV charging operations?
What did initial designs look like?
I designed a series of dashboards that experimented with different ways of visually presenting a map and charging data. My main challenge was showcasing complex information in an easy-to-understand format while balancing screen real estate between the map and the data.

Examples of some of the dashboard concepts
Iterations
01.
Pushed designs from mid to high fidelity, optimizing color, typography, and iconography for consistency.
02.
Updated the map color scheme to enhance asset visibility, driven by user feedback.
03.
Implemented a pop-up modal for quick access to vehicle and charger details directly from the map, driven by user feedback
Next Steps?
This was the first and most impactful feature I delivered during my time at Ampcontrol, serving as the primary landing page for both existing customers and potential users trialing our product. I designed, iterated, and shipped this solution within just four weeks. Given more time, I would have:
01.
Added more details for vehicles (i.e trip feedback, accident prevention, route previews) and additional high priority issues ground operators wanted to view (i.e Charging Queues, Scheduled maintenance reminders)
02.
Key metrics that I would've additionally considered would include: task completion rate, time spent in each section) to evaluate the dashboard’s impact post-launch.

EV Charging Management
Primary Purpose
Balance energy demand, reduce costs, and ensure grid stability.
EV fleets require detailed operational visualizations due to longer charge times, fluctuating energy costs, and frequent charging. Effective charging management is crucial for real-time charger availability, vehicle readiness, and optimizing fleet efficiency.
Who are the users?
Ground Operators
Responsibilities include:
Ensuring chargers are operational
Keeping vehicles/drivers on time
Resolving hardware issues efficiently
